We often use the saying " everything is as right as rain." I wish it were true ...but at the moment the Orphanage along with people of Kabale are really struggling with a much wetter and prolonged " wet " season. The rainfall for this period is over 700 mm of rain in a month and the number of rainfall days is 30 !!! Getting childrens clothes and bedding dry is extremely difficult as you can imagine...no washing machines or dryers, no Laundromats , everything is washed by hand and needs the sun to dry.
3 people were killed in the nearby village just metres below our buildings when a landslide engulfed their house. Being made of mud with corrigated iron on the roof...they stood no chance. Several days previously (again within close proximity),
2 people and 3 cattle were killed by lightning. Going inside is all very well to escape but it is not always the best option when the metal roof is only inches above your head.
With rainfall we get diseases and currently we have 4 orphans with Typhoid,
7 orphans with Malaria and 6 with severe Asthma.
One of the orphans Precious was hospitalised with Typhoid and as our budget is so tight Cogan had to sell three goats.... to pay for her release from hospital. (NZD 375)
We have now just 7 goats left and I believe it is time for another little project OPERATION GOAT HERD. We have a goat boy ( actually he is a man ) who tends the goats and is security to stop them being stolen.
If we could start a breeding program it would allow us to create a financial buffer for future medical short comings.
As this is outside our normal funding and is a love gift maybe this is something that new potential donors who read this blog may like to be involved in.
Please make donations through the MAKE MY NAME COUNT NEW ZEALAND TRUST KIWI BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER 38- 9024 0316596-00 include your name and Narration GOAT HERD. Remember donations can be eligible for NZ IRD donation rebate.
Photos below show the complexities of accounting for running an Orphanage and School... ( from Temuka New Zealand) plus the weather charts which make interesting reading also a photo of Goat Herds....ours will be high on a hill not up trees....
Blessings as Always. ...
